The 2nd annual Garrettsville Summerfest 2012 5k run and 1 mile fun run/walk will be an all road race to benefit Glioma Childhood Cancer research. All proceeds will benefit Friends of Melana, an organization set up to find the causes, treatments and cure for Glioma Childhood Cancer.

Our first annual 5k and 1 mile fun run/walk went MUCH better than expected. Everyone enjoyed the great scenic route, the food, and of course our highly professional race timing done by Chaney Events. Over 180 participants came out to support the cause last year. Let's make this year bigger and better!!!

Some important information... "Friends of Melana" was named in memory of Melana Matson, a nine year old girl from Garrettsville, who in 2009, was diagnosed with glioma brain cancer. Glioma brain cancer is an incurbale and inoperable disease. She lost her battle just 9 months after her diagnosis. In Melana's memory and others affected by this disease, "Friends of Melana" was formed...an organization dedicated to helping fund the fight against children's glioma cancer. We are kicking off Garrettsville's SECOND ANNUAL 5K AND 1 MILE FUN RUN/WALK TO BENEFIT THIS CAUSE.

This race is in memory of her.

Free beverages will be provided during and after the race along with free, quality runner's food! Prizes include medals for top place finishers (1st, 2nd and 3rd) in each age group (5-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+)
